Way back in 2004 (I think), I was approached by Geoff Beckett of Shocker Toys to produce some custom designs using his Shockini toy action figure. I was definitely intrigued by the idea, and wanted to show off which characters might work best as Shockinis. Right off the bat, I knew I wanted a Raphael custom in the mix, as I felt the shape of the Schockini toy would be perfect for him.

For the most part, Raphael is simply a Shockini reworked with minor sculpted details. The mask and knee and elbow pads were made from clear vinyl. The shell was sculpted using Magic Sculpt. It limits his articulation to a degree, but I think that was a justifiable tradeoff. I forget where the sais come from, but I think they were taken from a GI Joe figure. Chances are, I have Airmax to thank for that. (Thanks, bud!)

Anyway, the Shockinis went on tour for a year before I had a chance to photograph them. They’ve definitely seen better days, but I’m happy I had a chance to work on the project. For certain characters, the blockiness of the Shockini design is perfect.
