Cyclops (First Appearance)

Cyclops uses a reworked Dr. Mid-Nite DC Direct figure as its base. I had originally wanted to use a Golden Age Flash, but Mid-Nite turned out to be a far better base choice.

I began by removing all the extra red material under his belt. Unfortunately, that left him with a trunk area about 50% too small. Ouch! Anyway, I rebuilt the trunks using Kneadatite, sculpting wrinkles in the process. The little moon surface details were filed away from his chest and forehead, and Kneadatite was used once again for the visor. A pushpin serves for the belt buckle and the X-Logo was outputted digitally and applied with matte gel medium.

Based on his first appearance in X-Men #1, I’m pleased with how Cyclops turned out. He’s tall, skinny, and somewhat reminiscent of the stiff posturing of how Jack Kirby drew him.
